They went out and made some noise! With signs telling people about the TOMS One for ONe movement, and One Day Without Shoes, they stood on the Free Speech Steps at the Aztec center and talked to anyone walking by. After sharing with people the One Day Without Shoes purpose, they had them remove their shoes to be barefoot for a little bit. Check it out!
As told by Sean Lynch:
I went with my friend Tim to SDSU and waited for Kathl (my sister, a student there). As I was explaining to them what we were going to do that day, a shoeless guy walked by!! We were hella stoked to have such a good start. Wandering around SDSU barefoot was not awkward becasue most people wear sandals and it was a really nice day. Approaching people was a bit tense since our first question was ” I bet you wondering why we’re shoeless?” hahah some answered and some didn’t. I would break the ice, Tim would explain TOMS and Kathl would ask them if we could take a shoeless pic of them. Our pics included some Europeans, a professor kicking back in his office, and a dance student doing probably the most technically correct cartwheel we’d ever seen!
Tim, Kathl, and I made our way back to the Free Speech steps where we met some other SDSU students and alum. Posterboards made of white and light blue paper had the fast shoe facts from TOMS which were held on the steps by 5 of us. People would walk by by and read the signs as they walked up the walkway. When they reached to top of the stairs they would hear a bit more about TOMs and see the TOMS shoes on display.
The day ended with Kathl’s a capella group taking an interlocked foot pic. Hope you enjoyed the foot high five to celebrate our success.
with love from SDSU.
